The Santa María Romanic
church (XII century) is a huge single construction finished with
three apsis that make up its defensive system. There are dwelling
ruins and a wall surrounding the church.
Our next stop on this medieval Ribagorza route is Roda de Isabena.
The Obarra Monastery is at the end of the road through the Bonansa
canyon.
The best route is from Tierrantona to Graus along the Troncedo road.
In Graus we will take the Capella road quickly to Roda de Isabena.
The views along this route are exceptional.
Most interesting to the visitor is how such
a small village can have such an impressive cathedral. It used to
be the head of the region both politically and religiously. Its
urban layout is typically medieval, with narrow cobblestone streets
plagued with Romanic arches. In the center of this maze stands the
beautiful yet unknown cathedral. Built in the X century in honour
of San Vicente, it has been reformed a few times. It has three crypts
under its three buildings and its cloister is very well preserved
with its collection of almost 200 tombstone epigraphs on its walls
and its cistern/well in the center of the patio.
