Environmental Relationship
The Hotel and Natural Parks:
≡ Ordesa y Monte Perdido
≡ Parque Natural Sierra y Cañones de Guara
≡ Parque Natural Posets - Maladeta

The Hotel Restaurant Peña Montañesa is located in the Sobrarbe County very close to the Ordesa and Monte Perdido National Park and two Natural Parks: Sierra and canyons of Guara and Posets-Maladeta. Sobrarbe County takes in the Ara and Cinca river basins which merge at the capital. These two rivers divide the county into two well defined and differentiated valleys: The Ara valley´s main villlages are Boltaña, Fiscal, Broto y Torla And the Cinca Valley´s being Bielsa, Tella, Escalona, Lafortunada y Ainsa.
Ordesa y Monte Perdido National Park

This park is the closest to our facilities and the most representative of the mountain habitat having received numerous international conservation awards. Its unique scenery is dominated by huge drop-offs, deep valleys and summits of over 3,000 meters.:

Monte Perdido, Cilindro and Soum Rammond make up the Monte Perdido bulk which gives its name to the park. The Ordesa, Añisclo, Escuaín y Pineta valleys gouged out by the rivers Arazás, Bellos, Yaga y Cinca, make it a must see for anyone in the area. There are nature-routes and hikes to better take-in the beauty.

The park´s wildlife and plant-life is varied and is especially protected due to its population of mountain goats, groundhogs and bone-breaking eagles (quebrantahuesos), as well as its wild pine, fir and beech trees.

Posets-Maladeta Natural Park

Accessed through the Gistain Valley whose villages: Plan, San Juan de Plan, Gistaín, conserve the traditional taste in their form and ancestral customs. The park is made up of the Posets- Llardana and Maladeta massif grooved with numerous valleys, lakes, glaciers and ridges which make it ideal for hiking, canyoning, 4 x 4 and snow-shoeing. The park´s surroundings combine glacial forms, and valleys with indigenous wild and plant-life found only in the high mountain.

Sierra y los Cañones de Guara Natural Park

Accessed through Ainsa towards Guaso. Made up of theGabardiella, Guara, Arangol, Balcés and Sevil Sierras, its deep gourges and gullies make it ideal for canyoning. It also hosts one of the best preserved birds of prey populations in Europe.

Villages

The natural surroundings of the Hotel Restaurante Peña Montañesa are spectacular, but so are the villages and burgs close at hand:

Ainsa: Trademark medieval village declared a National Artistic Monument. This historic -artistic setting is of incomparable beauty. Its Main Square showcases The Colegiata de Santa Maria tower preserved in its original XII century romanic style or the church cloister. The views from atop offer the most spectacular panoramic views.
In September of every odd year the beautiful Main Square is the setting for the re-enactment of the Morisma. It depicts the apparition of the Holy Cross to King Garci Jiminez as he led the crusade to re-conquer the Square from the Muslims.

Near the town of Boltaña you will find a small single-eye romanic bridge next to the Ara river crossing the Ferrera gourge.

Other burgs worth visiting are: Labuerda and its recently restored church, Tella and and its museum dedicated to the bear or dolmen found at the entrance to the village, Bielsa in the Pineta valley, famous for its carnivals, as well as other burgs which make up the Gistain Valley.

This geographic hub makes it one of the most attractive counties in the Huesca province. Its natural beauty, and cordial people combined with the quiet surroundings make for an unforgettable stay in The Hotel Restaurante Peña Montañesa.
